SEB in Germany has made a sustainable decision for all business trips by train. By purchasing the new special tickets offered by Deutsche Bahn, where the energy is calculated and bought in advance, SEB Germany can secure complete carbon free travelling.

Long distance travelling by train saves about 75 per cent of the carbon emissions compared to going by car or plane. In addition, the German railway company now offers special tickets for their business clients, which make completely carbon free travels possible. Deutsche Bahn calculates the required energy for SEB’s total contracted business travels in advance. The necessary quantity of energy, 100 per cent renewable energy from sources in Germany, is purchased by the independent energy service provider DB Energie and fed into the railway network.
This offering makes it possible to largely reduce the carbon emissions. Juergen Herzog, head of administration in Germany, counts on yearly savings of about 200 tons of carbon.
“During their business travels our employees cover a distance of several hundred thousand kilometres every year. Therefore, we welcome the decision to use Deutsche Bahn’s service. To travel such a distance totally emission-free is very respectful towards the environment,” says Alexander Hohmann, who works with business travel at SEB Germany.
He says measures like this will help SEB achieve its goals for carbon reduction.
In the current business plan, SEB announced an ambition to reduce its carbon emissions company-wide by 45 per cent by 2015.
